One can be astonished because on this one afternoon in 1913 you see pictured two of the greatest hitters of all time—in fact, Cobb still has the number one slot and Jackson still has the number three best record. Notice their hands. Jackson’s huge hands were legendary and standing side by side with another great player you can see just how large they were.

Notice their bats. Jackson is holding one of his “Black Betsy’s”, a specially-made bat that measured 36-inches long and weighed 48 ounces. In this size of photo, Cobb’s bat measures slightly less than five inches while Jackson’s measures almost six inches.

Notice their uniforms. Cobb’s uniform is very clean; Jackson’s is stained and dirtied, a result of his extremely physical play.
