The Old Nashville locomotive of the Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati Railroad pulled the Lincoln funeral train between Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. The engine has been draped in black and a portrait of the martyred President, surrounded by a wreath, is fastened on the front. A group of men stand around the locomotive.

After stopping in Cleveland, Ohio on April 28, 1865 it continued on to Columbus on April 29th. At each of these locations, the coffin of the slain President was removed from the train for public viewings. The crowds in Cleveland numbered 100,000 and in Columbus over 50,000 people passed the coffin as it rested in the State Capitol. In smaller towns along the route the engine would pause momentarily. Even though the train passed through many of the areas in the dead of night, still thousands of grieving Ohioans stood beside the tracks holding torches or lighting bonfires to show their respect and grief. This event made the Old Nashville one of the most famous locomotives in Ohio history.
